If you purchased or received an Evil Genius Accessory, then you surely you wish to take care of it as best you can. Every purchase comes with a notecard instructing what type of material your accessory is made of and how best to care for it. But, given that Itty is a forgetful sort, Bitty knew that these type of instructions can be misplaced and therefore thought it best to write up some of basic care guidelines for your accessories. If you follow them, we can guarantee that there will be many years yet to wreck much havoc and mayhem with your Evil Genius product.

Washing

Evil plots can tend to get messy and eventually you will want to get your product despicably clean.

Spot treat any stains with non-chlorine detergent of your choice.

Hand wash in cold water or in a gentle cycle with like colors.

Be mindful that crocheted items are especially prone to being snagged by any clothing with hooks or buttons. We therefore advise that these get washed gently by hand.

Allow to air dry on a flat surface. To do so, simply wring excess moisture from the product and lay out on a toweled surface until dry. One can also roll item inside of the towel to further remove moisture from the item.

Some of our scarf items that are made of cotton or rayon blends may be placed in the dryer on a low heat setting to tumble dry and/or remove any wrinkles.

Sizing on Crocheted Items

Crocheted items can be infused with as much or as little of your evil being as you like and need. We try to guarantee the best fit for you based on information provided but the stitches and weaves of crocheting allow for a certain amount of give and natural relaxation. Therefore, the longer you wear your item and tug it on or off, the roomier the item will be. Items washed as per instructions previously given will shrink to a certain extent.

If you wish to shrink your item slightly: Mist gently with cold water and lay out to air dry on a flat surface. If the item has stretched out because of wear, it just means it’s time to wash it and let it return to it’s natural sizing.

If you wish to stretch your item slightly: You may steam the item gently while tugging it with even pressure to get it to expand. This is especially true for gloves. Non-joined scarves may simply be tugged evenly by either end to relax the stitching somewhat and increase the length of the product.

If you receive the item and it is not to your sizing or just immediately too large for you, contact us immediately! We may assist you in finding a more suitable solution or a return may be needed for adjustments.

Other Maintenance

With genius sometimes comes the inability to remember to tie up all loose ends. Both Itty and Bitty try really hard to go over every product made to ensure there is no loose strand taunting them. But sometimes there are oversights.

If your item is fabric and was sewn but has a loose string, DO NOT TUG IT OFF! Instead, find a small pair of scissors and snip the thread off at the base without damaging the fabric. (We do trust that you know how to handle scissors since it’s a skill learned in Kindergarten. Unless you’re like Bitty who skipped Kindergarten and might need a refresher course.)

If your item is crocheted and has a loose yarn strand: This is fairly common due to the need of fastening off beginnings and ends and sometimes pieces in between. We tuck them back into the weave of the stitches but sometimes with wear, the product stretches and loosens the strand. Again, DO NOT TUG IT OFF! Usually one need weave it back into the pattern with the use of a large needle. If none are on hand, the offending yarn end can be snipped without damaging the weave of the item.

The idea behind Evil Genius Accessories began one cold winter day when a pair of friends were tired of saying “Hey, I could make that!” whenever they saw a pretty accessory. Each had tried to begin their own handmade accessories line the year before and found it had fallen a little flat. Perhaps with their combined energies they could keep the steam running for a more lucrative venture?

It sounded wonderful.

It sounded GENIUS in fact!

So it was that Desert Bunny Flare joined up with Bombshell Within Designs to create the Evil Genius Plot.

Together they worked through the weeks leading up to Christmas to create gifts and items for sale for their families and friends. The house soon began to look like a workshop and they began to call themselves the evil elves for their itty bitty craft business.

Thus they began calling each other Itty & Bitty.

Alike as they are in their love of accessories, crocheting and mayhem, Itty & Bitty are as different as they come.

Itty

Itty is a classic girl of minimalist tastes. She likes being bold with colors and loves her stripes. Her philosophy is that one need not be über girly to be feminine and modern. It’s the little details that make up the big picture.

Itty is also in charge of all the major machine sewing aspects of construction as well as some of the more basic crochet work. She studies the grander proportions of products so they can be recreated to our genius standards. It is through her that Evil Genius gets its main customer base as she very often wants to keep and wear everything they make. On more than one occasion people have bought creations right off of her person, leaving her bereft of her accessories and hungry to just go back and make more!

But who’s to say that that isn’t part of the evil plot?

Bitty

Bitty is the lady with a flair for the dramatic. She is our own resident bombshell. Her love is color and socks and those all don’t necessarily have to match or coordinate in classic conventions. Her style philosophy is that one can look great in any size and we should all dress the bodies we currently have. We all deserve to look fabulous.

And fabulous she is!

Bitty is currently the elf with the talent for the minute details. With a needle and thread she attacks the little jobs that make for a more finished Evil Genius creation. She has the eye for learning more complicated crochet patterns as well as embroidery work. Bitty is the elf behind the writing and maintenance of this blog, as well as their joint twitter feed.

If you would like to learn more about us, please leave any questions or comments below. We look forward to seeing our gorgeous accessories take over the world!
